New Director at AFD Maputo

Dimitri Kanounnikoff is the new Director of AFD Maputo agency where he took his duties on August 15, 2010.

Dimitri Kanounnikoff joined AFD in 2005. within the environment and natural resources unit, he managed environmental projects and pursued the implementation of actions related to climate change, first from Paris and then from Bangkok focusing on Asia. Previously, Dimitri Kanounnikoff worked with the World Bank where he has participated in the supervision of environmental and rural development projects in Central Africa.


Presentation of Mozambique

Mozambique, with a population of over 20 million inhabitants, is a Portuguese-speaking country in Eastern-Africa. Vast country covering over 800.000 km ², it enjoys a wide maritime area (almost 2.800 km of coastline).
It benefits from numerous advantages (abundant natural resources, political stability, closeness to the South-African giant) and has had remarkable economic results for several years with annual growth at over 8%.
Yet it is still one of the poorest countries in the world and ranks in 172nd place (out of 177) in terms of human development. Read the full text
